What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are essentially a full or partial denture that is connected to multiple dental implants. Most patients only need between six to eight implant posts, but we can also provide you with a special implant denture known as an all-on-4, which only needs four implants.

No matter how many dental implants would be best for your implant denture, your restoration will fall into one of two major categories:

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

These implant dentures can only be removed by a qualified dentist like Dr. Hsue. For all intents and purposes, they’re designed to be a permanent part of your smile.

Removable Implant Dentures

As you might guess, removable implant dentures can be taken out of your mouth and reinserted at your convenience. It’s worth noting, though, that you’ll only be able to remove the denture, not the dental implants placed below the gumline.

The Implant Denture Process

First, you’ll meet with Dr. Hsue to discuss your health history and treatment needs. He’ll work closely with you to pin down the details of your treatment plan and may take impressions at this time.

Second, Dr. Hsue will surgically anchor your dental implants to your jawbone. Rest assured, we’ll administer a local anesthetic to help ensure you’re quite comfortable during this part of the implant denture process.

Third, you’ll maintain a soft food diet and get plenty of rest during your post-op recovery. Your jawbone, meanwhile, will start fusing with the biocompatible implant posts through a natural process known as “osseointegration.”

Fourth, we’ll coordinate with a local dental lab to customize the denture part of your restoration. As soon as the final touches are complete, we’ll call you back to the office to fit you with your new smile!

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most adults with good oral health are good candidates for implant dentures. Even if you do have an existing condition like gum disease, though, we can most likely help you address it so you can have a successful treatment. Implant dentures work best for those who would need a traditional set of dentures in order to replace most or all of their teeth. That said, the only way to know for certain whether this unique restoration is a good solution for you is to meet with Dr. Hsue for a consultation!

Benefits of Combining Dentures & Dental Implants

There are many benefits of connecting a denture to dental implants, such as:

  • Superior strength and stability – eat all of your favorite foods and speak with ease!
  • Incredible longevity – implant dentures can last for 30 years or more with good care
  • Preserve your jawbone – dental implants prevent the jawbone loss commonly associated with missing teeth
  • Realistic – implant dentures look and feel like natural teeth
